Timothy D. Stickney recently was asked to speak at the graduation of his alma mater, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. "I was really honored when they called me," says the actor, who attended its New York Campus. "It's their 120th anniversary, and I've been out for 20 years now -- which is unbelievable." The actor put a lot of thought into his speech, drawing on his many experiences since graduating two decades earlier. "I tried to crystallize what it is I needed to impart to [the graduates] besides welcoming them to the tribe, because it's rare that people train to act anymore," he relates. "One of my pieces of advice was not to give yourself a time limit when it comes to [accomplishing things] in your career. I've been successful and have generally gotten plays and roles that I've wanted -- and I can count the things that I wanted that I didn't get in my career -- but if I had put a number on it, I would have given up before I did any of the fun stuff." ++ Return to Timothy D.
